While the quality of glass used to replace a windshield is quite important, the quality of adhesive used is of even greater importance. Urethane glass bonding adhesive is used for millions of new windshield installations every year, and independent auto glass service facilities such as DeDona Auto Glass rely on the same quality adhesive when replacing a damaged windshield.
Why is the adhesive so important?
Urethane adhesive is what bonds the windshield glass to the body of the vehicle. No matter how strong the windshield may be, installation without the proper adhesive (or a poor application of the adhesive) can result in the windshield glass separating from the vehicle in an accident. The safety of the driver and passengers depends largely on proper windshield installation in three ways: A properly installed windshield using manufacturer-equivalent adhesive prevents occupants from being ejected from a vehicle in an accident, supports the roof to prevent crushing during a rollover, and it provides the support that the passenger airbag needs to deploy properly.
Government and manufacturer standards have been put in place to enhance motor vehicle safety, including extensive safety testing to determine the quality of the glass, adhesive, and installation process.
Will a replacement windshield offer the same protection as the factory windshield?
DeDona Auto Glass proudly uses high quality urethane adhesive made by Dow Automotive Systems. The windshields of nearly every vehicle manufactured in the U.S. were installed using adhesive produced by Dow. These adhesives provide a bond of equal strength to that of the original installation.
