Americans spend a great deal of time in their cars. With the average commute being almost 25 minutes, we spend over 100 hours a year driving to and from work. Add in time spent going to the grocery store and running other errands, and we’re spending about 50% more time driving than we do on vacation.
With so much time spent behind the wheel, a good car audio system becomes even more important. If we’re going to be spending all this time in the car, why not enjoy it?
At DeDona Tint and Sound, we’ll help you design the perfect system to meet your needs. We also want to make sure you understand what goes into your custom design. Here’s a bit about what makes up your car audio system.
Head Unit
The head unit is another name for the tuner, CD player, cassette deck, etc. This is the beginning of the chain for your system. It sends the initial signal to the other components.
Amplifier
An amplifier boosts your signal power. This results in a cleaner signal and more volume.
Signal Processors
There are several different types of signal processors. One type is called a “crossover.” A crossover performs tasks such as sending low frequencies to subwoofers and higher frequencies to other component speakers, resulting in a cleaner, distributed sound and better overall performance. Another common signal processor is an “equalizer.” An equalizer acts as a more sophisticated tone control, adjusting different levels of high, mid, and low frequencies, allowing a more custom sound.
Speakers
Your speakers are the final component in the signal chain. For a stellar audio system, one can’t skimp on the quality of speakers. A great amplifier and signal processor cannot make up for poor choice in speakers.
Subwoofers
Subwoofers are the speakers that handle the lower frequencies. Subwoofers require more power than other speakers to put out a signal free of distortion and other unwanted noise, thus requiring an amplifier.
With all of these components, installing a car audio system can seem a bit overwhelming. After all, one must make sure that the choice of amplifier does not require an upgrade in the car’s electrical system. One must be sure that the head unit has the proper pre-amp outputs for the amplifier, and that everything is wired correctly for optimum performance. And how about building a custom-designed enclosure for your subwoofers? That’s where the expertise of DeDona Tint and Sound comes in.
