Having a rock hit your windshield can be really shocking, dangerous or at the very least highly aggravating. A high percentage of auto accidents are caused by rocks hitting windshields and the damage done to your vehicle can be huge. Hopefully you won’t have this trouble this summer, but this blog outlines what to do in case you do.
Pull over and inspect for damage
The first thing to do, according to the American Automobile Association is to pull over and inspect for damage. Stay calm, and call a friend or family member if you think you need help.
Cover the area
Next, cover the damaged area with clear tape to keep it clean and dry. Definitely avoid extremely hot temperatures or, extremely cold temperatures and certainly avoid car washes also until you get your windshield repaired. These tips are really important. Really hot or cold temperatures and water also cause the damage to grow.
Check with your insurance
We’ve found in most cases auto insurance companies will waive the deductible for windshield repair. This means it could well cost you nothing to repair the windshield.
